We released more content in SQLBI+ with two new sessions:

  • Introducing Visual Calculations in Power BIIntroducing Visual Calculations in Power BI: This two-hour session introduces the Visual Calculations feature in Power BI, which is still in preview. We plan to update the “Understanding Visual Calculations in DAX” whitepaper, which is already part of SQLBI+, and we will create a complete video course based on that whitepaper once the Visual Calculations feature becomes generally available. However, we wanted to provide video content that introduces the feature and explains how to create non-trivial calculations, all the while exposing the limitations of visual calculations. This video should not become obsolete once the preview ends. The white paper goes much deeper in describing the internal syntax and the apply semantics, but a few details could still change while the feature is in preview.
  • Optimizing DAX in Power BI: tools and techniquesOptimizing DAX in Power BI – Tools and techniques: Overview of the techniques and the tools (free and commercial) available to optimize the performance of DAX expressions in Power BI models. You learn what you can do with Performance Analyzer included in Power BI, how to extract query plans and statistical information with DAX Studio (free and open-source), and you can see the results achievable with the DAX Optimizer service, which uses a static analysis of the entire model. The session is 65 minutes long.

Stay tuned for new SQLBI+ content coming in 2025!
