What's happened in the last two weeks, with our comments:
• Power BI Desktop April 2017 – add column from example  | A new transformation in Query Editor of Power BI allows you to create a new column by simply typing examples of the result you want. Only simple transformations by now, but a very promising feature. |
• Power BI Desktop April 2017 – quick measures
Between the other many new features of April 2017 release, there are quick measures, which generate new DAX measures with a simple user interface. Microsoft is looking for new templates and we want to work with that. However, this will not happen soon because of current limited support for time intelligence, working only with auto date-time feature (which we suggest disabling when you have more than one date in the model). But it definitely worth to be tried, and measures obtained in this way can be customized.
• Power BI Service – custom cache refresh schedules
Tiles in Power BI dashboards connected to DirectQuery and live data sources are refreshed periodically (only reports are real-time – did you know that?). Now you can control the cache refresh frequency, up to 15 minutes.
• OKViz BETA visuals
 | Synoptic Panel, Bullet Chart, Sparkline and Card with States got updates that fix several annoying issues. Their release in the Office Store will take a few weeks, so use it in BETA today. |
