Introducing DAX Video Course

This is an introductory video course about the DAX language. DAX is the native language of Power BI, Power Pivot for Excel, and SSAS Tabular models in Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services. The training is aimed at users of Power BI, Power Pivot for Excel, and at Analysis Services developers that want to move the first steps with DAX.

The goal is to teach the DAX language using Power BI for all the examples. You can download the initial Power BI Desktop file used in the demos and repeat all the steps shown in the videos. The same concepts can be used also on Power Pivot and on Analysis Services Tabular. The course is made of 150 minutes of lectures. You can watch the videos at anytime and the system will keep track of your advances. Within the course you can download the slides and the initial Power BI file used in the demos.

  • Peterson Mutegi (Nov 8, 2023)

Beyond comprehensive, calling it an introduction is near disservice to the quality of content delivered. Thank you!

  • Anton Sigitov (Nov 7, 2023)

Great course to understand the basics of DAX will clear explanation!

  • Ashleigh Smith (Oct 31, 2023)

I learnt more than I thought during this course. Even just the understanding of filtering, particularly on related tables, from dimensions to fact tables and the relationship impacts on 1 > MANY and MANY > MANY. Thank you!

  • Panos (Oct 31, 2023)

I liked the cource a lot. In combination with some additional videos found from your channel in youtube such as the small Calculate playlist it provides a very good understanding of the DAX language. Some additional things could be added such as how If and filter can lead to different results as well as how to deal with blanks and so on. An introductory video would be also helpful explaining the dataset. Some terms uses such as Margin and Margin % don't make sense based on accounting terminology. The Margin in your case is the gross profit which doesn't make sense to be named Margin. Lastly, a few things mentioned are not part of slides which is not idead to use them as reference. I had to add what was taught in a copy of my slides so as to be able to refence without looking at video. Teaching methodology is clear, concise and well explained.
