Introducing DAX Video Course

This is an introductory video course about the DAX language. DAX is the native language of Power BI, Power Pivot for Excel, and SSAS Tabular models in Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services. The training is aimed at users of Power BI, Power Pivot for Excel, and at Analysis Services developers that want to move the first steps with DAX.

The goal is to teach the DAX language using Power BI for all the examples. You can download the initial Power BI Desktop file used in the demos and repeat all the steps shown in the videos. The same concepts can be used also on Power Pivot and on Analysis Services Tabular. The course is made of 150 minutes of lectures. You can watch the videos at anytime and the system will keep track of your advances. Within the course you can download the slides and the initial Power BI file used in the demos.

Great course to understand the basics of DAX will clear explanation!

  • Ashleigh Smith (Oct 31, 2023)

I learnt more than I thought during this course. Even just the understanding of filtering, particularly on related tables, from dimensions to fact tables and the relationship impacts on 1 > MANY and MANY > MANY. Thank you!

I liked the cource a lot. In combination with some additional videos found from your channel in youtube such as the small Calculate playlist it provides a very good understanding of the DAX language. Some additional things could be added such as how If and filter can lead to different results as well as how to deal with blanks and so on. An introductory video would be also helpful explaining the dataset. Some terms uses such as Margin and Margin % don't make sense based on accounting terminology. The Margin in your case is the gross profit which doesn't make sense to be named Margin. Lastly, a few things mentioned are not part of slides which is not idead to use them as reference. I had to add what was taught in a copy of my slides so as to be able to refence without looking at video. Teaching methodology is clear, concise and well explained.

Thank you so much, ragazzi...Helps alot in my job here in Austria as an Power BI / Excel BI Trainer and Consultant...Great job, keep up the good work...Bernd (Bernardo) :)

Nice training. it has been helping me understanding better the DAX basics.

  • Scott Wourms (Oct 20, 2023)

Excellent. I've been working with Power BI and DAX for many years, so while nothing was new in this introductory course, it provided a lot of insight into the way that the functions, filters and joins are working. That insight will make it much easier and quicker to write code with these simple functions in the future. Also the staging of the instruction was much more valuable than searching the web for videos on the use of a single function. This course was presented in a stepped manner, where later material built naturally on learnings from previous videos. I will definitely pay to take the Mastering and Optimizing DAX courses now that I've seen the quality of the material.

Excellent course on starting to use DAX in power Bi

  • Kjekd Seegert (Oct 20, 2023)

    Perfekt best course !

  • Stanley Enyika (Oct 20, 2023)

this is a very wonderful course and you guys did justice in touching areas that might be of confusion

  • Asad M (Oct 17, 2023)

Fantastic course. I was (and remain) ambivalent about using a lot of DAX (proprietary and prone to overuse) in my solutions. This course singularly helped break some myths I held, I immediately ordered Russo+Ferrari's 2 DAX books and I am looking forward to diving into them. The concept of 'table functions' and 'evaluation context' should be required mastery for anyone presenting themselves as a Power BI expert.

The best course I've ever seen. Brilliant examples and teachers. Thank you very much!

    Very well done!

  • Oleksandr Pysmenniy (Oct 10, 2023)

Thank you, it was very interesting and useful to study your course :)

This gives you a very strong foundation for the DAX and when comes to applicability, this knowledge gives you more sense of meaning for the formulas you use. I am here after working on DAX for a while, now when I look back on the work I did, it gives me more broader understanding of what I did. This is a must knowledge who is working on visualisation projects
