Introducing DAX Video Course

This is an introductory video course about the DAX language. DAX is the native language of Power BI, Power Pivot for Excel, and SSAS Tabular models in Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services. The training is aimed at users of Power BI, Power Pivot for Excel, and at Analysis Services developers that want to move the first steps with DAX.

The goal is to teach the DAX language using Power BI for all the examples. You can download the initial Power BI Desktop file used in the demos and repeat all the steps shown in the videos. The same concepts can be used also on Power Pivot and on Analysis Services Tabular. The course is made of 150 minutes of lectures. You can watch the videos at anytime and the system will keep track of your advances. Within the course you can download the slides and the initial Power BI file used in the demos.

This was a wonderful introduction to DAX. I found it very helpful how the course builds on itself, starting from basic concepts and then adding more complexity as the course moved forward! I recommend this to anyone who is thinking about tinkering around with DAX/PowerBI.

    Excellent!

  • Mourad BENKADOUR (Apr 11, 2019)

Thank you a lot for this excellent course. it would be better if we can test our dax knowledges by some exercices, quiz, so by that we can decide if we able to upload to next level.

I can't think of anyone I would rather learn DAX from than from Alberto and Marco. I have read a lot of their articles and seen some of their seminars regarding Power BI and DAX. Also, their books are excellent regarding this subject. This was an introductory course, but I highly recommend it for anyone just starting out with writing DAX code to understand the various filter contexts. Thank you, Alberto and Marco for these free videos starting with introducing Power BI and this introducing DAX course. I plan on moving forward with your more advanced DAX courses soon.

I loved it. I’ve been trying to be self-taught, but going through the videos with the authors of the books that I am using helped clarify a lot of things and made me pay more attention to the details in the books that they wrote. As they say, “DAX is simple, but it it not easy.”

  • Alejandra Sevilla (Apr 2, 2019)

Amazing introduction to DAX! It is a lot more clear now. Thank you!

  • William Eunice (Mar 30, 2019)

Outstanding overview of DAX. It really answered some of my basic misunderstandings. I was relying heavily on the Quick Measures in Power BI but this really gives me a platform to start producing measures that give better insight than can be had out the box. Bravo!
