Introducing Visual Calculations in Power BI
This session introduces the Visual Calculations feature in Power BI, which provides a different way to write DAX expressions based on the results visible in a visual and without accessing other information in the semantic model. Because the data in a visual can have a hierarchical representation, data on rows and columns of the visual can be grouped to match the existing hierarchies. We describe the underlying concepts of visual calculations, the specific functions available in visual calculation, and the corresponding generic DAX window functions also available in the semantic model.
The second part of the session includes several practical examples of visual calculations, also exposing the limitations of this feature.
If you want to know more about Visual Calculations after this video, the Visual Calculations white paper goes much deeper in describing the internal syntax and the apply semantics.
